Our chicken products, both free-range and RSPCA approved chicken, are sourced from Hazeldene’s – renowned as Australia’s best chicken producer.
Located locally in Lockward, near Bendigo in Central Victoria, Hazeldene’s has been operating since 1938. Hazeldene’s now stands at the forefront of poultry production in Australia, leading the industry in consistent quality, animal welfare, innovation and value.
Here at Gamekeepers, we procure the whole chicken from Hazeldene's and our master butchers break down into classic and speciality cuts. We specifically select Size 17 birds to breakdown ensuring optimal portions of the breast and leg meat and this size provides the best flavour profile.
THE HAZELDENE'S DIFFERENCE
- All Hazeldene’s chicken is RSPCA approved. Hazeldene’s has a strong commitment to animal welfare at all stages of the breeding, growing and feeding cycle.
- Birds are raised in an enriched barn environment, with space to move around and perch, good lighting, dust-bathe and forage. This is essential for the birds to express innate behaviours and to have good muscle and fat tissue, which in turn ensures high-quality tasting meat.
- Hazeldene’s have a zero-use policy for added Antibiotic Growth Promotant.
FREE-RANGE HAZELDENE'S CHICKEN
- Birds have the ability to forage naturally and instinctively amongst grasses, weeds, bushes and trees in a secure environment.
- Their diet is supported with locally-supplied multi-grains, blended with spice extracts and essential oils. This creates healthy and high-quality tasting free-range chicken.
- Hazeldene's, accredited by FREPA (The Free Range Egg and Poultry Association), was amongst the first meat poultry producers to receive free-range accreditation in Victoria.
